Columbia Trail Masters Greater Outdoor Challenge

set on September 11, 2011

SERIOUS outdoor adventure racing returns with a bang to the local sports scene when the 3rd Columbia Trail Masters Greater Outdoor Challenge comes off the wraps on Sept. 11 at the panoramic Nuvali Eco Community in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

“We believe that the time is ripe for our outdoor athletes and adventurers to rise up to the next level and face new challenges,” said Columbia brand manager Tiffany Batungbacal in the PSA forum at Shakey’s UN Avenue branch in Manila.

“The Columbia Trail Masters Greater Outdoor Challenge is an ideal vehicle to try and test their mettle amidst a lush and picturesque landscape,” added Batungbacal of the competition that combines trail running, off road cycling, rappelling and racing through a muddy course.

Adrenaline Multisports group chief and race director Thumbie Remigio, who joined Batungbacal in the session, stressed that the event is “not a novelty race but a serious contest of strength, stamina and endurance as the participants go through all its four stages, but all in the spirit of fun and adventure.”

Batungbacal said that there will be a 60-kilometer distance for elite contestants in both men’s and women’s divisions and a 40-kilometer competition open to a team of two participants each in the men’s and mixed divisions.

She said the challenge in the Elite division will begin with the run wild 10-km obstacle course, followed by a 10-km bike race, 10-km run, a 25-km combination of bike and rappel and lastly, another 5-km run wild obstacle course.

The team category will be comprised of an 8-km combination of the run wild obstacles and rappel, as well as a 20-km bike race ending with another run wild obstacle course of 5-km.

“This event also allows us to showcase Columbia’s light, comfortable, durable and quality outdoor sports wear and gear,” she said of the apparel and footwear made by one of the USA’s pioneering and leading firms in the outdoor industry since 1938.

Both guests thanked Nuvali for serving as the main site and take-off point of the event also supported by BDO, Cebu Pacific, Res|Toe|Run and ROX among others.

The champion in the men’s and women’s division in the 60-km elite event will get PHP15,000 cash and PHP5,000 worth of Columbia gift certificates apiece, while the winning team in the same men’s and mixed divisions of the 40-km contest will likewise get PHP15,000 cash and P5,000 in Columbia gift checks.

END HUNGER: WALK THE WORLD

Take a step towards ending hunger with WFP National Ambassador Against Hunger KC Concepcion at SM Mall of Asia, on May 29, 5:00AM

PHILIPPINES – “Karon pa jud ko nabusog, Ma’am!” (This is my first time to feel full, Ma’am!), said Shiela Mae Gascon, 9, a grade three student, after eating a hot nutritious meal through the support of the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) for Tugar Elementary School in Kauswagan Municipality in Lanao del Norte. Tugar Elementary School is just one of the 300 schools that WFP assists with its Emergency School Feeding programme in the conflict-affected provinces of Central Mindanao to help get children into schools and out of hunger.

Hunger and malnutrition are the biggest threats to global health worldwide, and are responsible for a third of all deaths in children under the age of five in the developing world.

This year, thousands of people around the globe are preparing to join WFP and its major corporate partners, TNT, Unilever and DSM, in a walk to raise awareness and money to feed hungry children in some of the poorest countries in the world on May 29, Sunday.

WFP and its partners are passionate about taking action on this important issue and believe that everyone can help by joining Walk the World Pilipinas as a step towards ending hunger.

WHERE: SM Mall of Asia, IMAX Parking lot

WHEN: May 29, 2011, Sunday, 5:00-10:00AM

This year’s Walk the World, which is set to be bigger than the previous years, is open to walkers and runners who are passionate about fighting hunger. In addition to the traditional 2-km walk, there will be a 5-km run for enthusiasts, both male and female, and a competitive 10-km group run. Proceeds from the event will support approximately 80,000 school children in the provinces of Maguindanao, Lanao del Norte and Lanao del Sur.

Join Walk the World Pilipinas today (www.walktheworld-pilipinas.org) – together we can end hunger.

It costs WFP just 10 pesos to provide a nutritious meal to a child at school. School feeding programmes also give parents an extra incentive to keep their children in school, and help to lay a healthy foundation for a better future for the young.

If you can’t join the walk in person, you can still get involved at http://wfp.org/walktheworld with photos, videos and donations.

SALOMON X-TRAIL PILIPINAS AND MOUNTAIN PARTY

Mark your calendars on November 13, 2010 as Salomon brings you the FIRST EVER Salomon X-Trail and Mountain Party—the newest and most unique running event of the year! The Philippine leg of a South-East Asian Circuit, participants will run along the trails of Pamulaklakin Forest Reserve in Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) and experience a different kind of trail race, done the Salomon way.

The race participants will run across the protected rain forests of SBMA’s Pamulaklakin Nature Reserve. They will not only be racing against time, but also the sun! A unique race in itself, it starts in the afternoon where runners will have to run faster than the daylight in order to get to the finish line before the sun sets on them and get caught in the dark just while they are in the middle of the forest. They can choose from 24K or 12K, following technical trails, treading on gin-clear streams and zipping in between hundred-year old trees. These men and women are tested not only for their speed and endurance, but also their ability to be agile. Hydration will not be a problem with Gatorade and Maynilad Water providing the runners with their much-needed liquids.

After tiring themselves out, they are welcomed by a mountain party—a celebration of both human victory and camaraderie amongst peers. This not-so-typical awarding ceremony will be hosted by the lovely Dianne Elise. Live blues, classic rock, reggae, jazz and alternative music provided by the Blues Bad Boy himself, Joniver, will serve as background in this mountain party. Games and prizes provided by Suunto, Sea to Summit, Nalgene, Subic Bay Venezia Hotel, and other partners will keep the crowd enthusiastic. Great music, food and mouth-watering sandwiches by Earle’s Delicatessen and drinks from Pepsi Max will be the catalyst for new and renewed friendships and establishing a solid community of trail runners—advocates and ambassadors of the sport.

For more information, check out the Salomon Pilipinas Facebook Fan Page and visit www.xtrailpinas.com. Also listen to the official radio station, Mellow 94.7 for detailed event announcements. Registration is at the Recreational Outdoor eXchange (R.O.X) Bonifacio High Street and Ayala Center Cebu branches.

Salomon is the leader in trail running equipment and footwear, and is exclusively distributed by the Primer Group of Companies.
